Mild or Wild

I've had a blast with this last series at Epic and E3 where we've talked about how our faith can be more than just a religious ritual, it can and should be an exciting adventure.  When Jesus called out to the fisherman, "Come and follow me...", He was extending an invitation to us as well, an invitation that calls us from the mild and routine to the wild and remarkable!

I'll take the next few blogposts to share the big ideas of each week.  In week 1, we learned that Jesus desires to expose us to an exciting life full of adventure and fulfillment not one of boring religious ritual.

His call to the fisherman in Matthew 4:18-20 was a call out of the natural and into the supernatural where faith is integrated into every part of our lives and where He can do things for us and through us that supercedes our own natural human abilities.  The thought of catching "men and women" instead of "fish" was one that I'm sure baffled the disciples, but nonetheless, they were captured by His call and the rest is history.

The cool thing is that Jesus didn't go to the elite establishment of his day.  The fisherman weren't the bottom of the barrel either.  They were normal people just like you and me.  Were they perfect?  Are you kidding me?  If perfection was a prerequisite for being used by God, we wouldn't be reading this blog today.  But that's exactly what religion teaches - works, works, work.  Religion wants to keep us in a paralyzed state where we feel as though we could never "measure up" in order to be a tool used for God's purposes.  The truth is that Jesus is not limited by the mistakes of your past or the hangups of your present.  He is able to use you today for His glory!

So are you ready to take a walk on the "WILD" side?  Here's how:

  1. Recognize His call for more! - Matthew 16:24
  2. Regard His example. - Romans 8:29-30
  3. Respond quickly. - The disciples left all and followed quickly...

Imagine the difference we can all make together when we "follow" Jesus everyday.  We can change the world.  Let's go do it!
